Today was dedicated to exploring Stockholm and as is our tradition by now - we go and find rhe red Hop-On-Hop-Off Buses. They always cover the must-sees in town while also giving you a bit of history and quirky facts.
First stop for the day was the Vaasa Museum. The Vaasa is an old warship from the 1600's that sank in Stockholm Harbour on he maiden voyage. She was recovered in the 1960's, restored and now has her own climate-controlled museeum where she can be viewed.
Second stop, the ABBA Museum! Only built 2 years ago, the ABBA Museum is a tribute to the famous swedish pop group and houses amongst other things original prizes, awards etc. One thing that the swedish REALLY do well is Museums. Every single one we have visited so far has been interesting and fun. For example you get the chance to record yourself singing an ABBA hit karaoke style and then download it later when you get home via a personalisedd link. And no, you're not getting mine!!!
Last stop for the day was the Nobel Laureate Museum. We were quite lucky as they are usually closed on Mondays but due to it being "announcement week" of the 2015 prize winners, they were open on all days....
One really nice tradition of theirs is that when a Nobel Laureate visits the Museum personally, they sign the bottom of one of the Cafe chairs. Naturally Timm had an interest in finding those people (Mandela and De Klerk) he once looked after and so the hunt began.... Thankfully people were quite accommodating when we asked them if we could look under the chair they were sitting on!!!
As it turns out, Mandela never visted the museum but De Klerk did and below is his chair
Obama's Chair
And so we returned back to our campsite ready for Dessert. Touring is exhausting!!
Oh, one more thing. Check out these organized public toilets - of course you need to pay for them but now you don't have change. Just SMS!! Works even for foreigners!!
