It has been like Russia for me and as much as I was excited for Mel finding her family heritage, secretly I am very happy they all left and went to West Germany! If not, giving regard to what happened here in those years of pre and post war, we might never have had the blessing of Mouse.
The first campsite in Poland was Top class
The second was interesting from an inanimate person point of view but boring and irritating from a real drunken all night party group of yobborealnproplr point of view - I kid you not they drank yelled and played music from 2000 to 0900 the next morning when we left - fortunately we both slept through most of it.
Then the City Camp in Kaunas was just that and awesome . Clean, secure and organised.
Make no mistake some of the towns are pretty in Poland like Szcecinek but the rest have run out of money (rural) and there is a distinct absence of young folks.
We both looked at each other when we crossed the border into Lithuania and said - this is better. We tried to figure out why and it seems to be an inherint distrust of Russian influence, the default grumpiness of the polish and greater ordinances in Lithuania - it appeals to the Deutsch gene in us.
